Arthrosurface Patients Cross the Three Year Mark

FRANKLIN, Mass., Oct. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Arthrosurface, Inc. (http://www.arthrosurface.com), the developer of less-invasive joint resurfacing systems, reports that some of its early shoulder and hip patients have recently crossed over their respective three year post-surgery marks. In addition to these patients, many more are now over two years, including international patients who received the HemiCAP(R) knee implant. Patients resurfaced with the Arthrosurface system for the great toe are also approaching their two year milestones.

"These positive clinical results across different joints, and in a large variety of cartilage pathologies, are encouraging, especially for those patients who are struggling with joint pain but may be too young for a traditional joint replacement," says Steve Ek, COO and company co-founder.

Dr. Daniel Snyder of the Newton Wellesley Hospital in nearby Boston said, "My first patient had three previous surgeries to address his damaged shoulder, with little success. It had gotten to the point where he could no longer work. Because of the HemiCAP(R) technology, I was able to anatomically reconstruct his humeral head. Now he has a pain-free joint with normal motion. For a physician, getting the patient back to work with a normal lifestyle is the best reward."

Arthrosurface utilizes its proprietary technology to offer localized, partial joint resurfacings that are inset into patients' damaged joint surfaces. Based on Arthrosurface's 3D mapping technology, implants can be matched intra-operatively, so that their HemiCAP(R) implant fits smoothly into the intact areas of the patients' joint surfaces. The implants have found clinical use in a variety of cartilage and joint pathologies, ranging from traumatic injuries to early arthritis.

"Anyone who feels that the Arthrosurface resurfacing technique might be for them should see a doctor. I thought I would have to live with this pain or get a total hip which would have severely limited the activities I could do. Now its three years later and I know that you can get complete pain relief, maintain normal motion and do many things without having to worry about the pain. The freedom it gives you is very powerful and I am so happy to have my life back," said Kellie, one of Arthrosurface's first hip patients.
