The contract includes not only the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), but also the Department of Defense and other federal agencies (also known as Other Government Agencies or OGSs) within the 50 states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico.

The contract covers Elekta's advanced digital linear accelerators, capable of intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and 3D X-ray Volume Imaging for image guided radiation therapy (IGRT), developed to address the problems of organ movement and patient set-up uncertainties in radiation therapy.

IMPAC Medical Systems, Inc., an Elekta company, received a contract for the company's oncology-specific healthcare IT solutions for the same period of time. The IMPAC contract includes Multi-ACCESS(TM) and MOSAIQ(TM) solutions, which fully integrate with all major treatment systems to improve patient outcomes and expedite workflow, benefiting both the patient and the treatment center.

Following the acquisition of IMPAC Medical Systems Inc. in April 2005, the Elekta Group became the world's largest supplier of oncology software.

The VA provides federal benefits to eight million veterans, their family members and survivors. With a work force of more than 225,000 employees, the VA is the largest civilian department in the federal government.
