CRANFORD, N.J., Oct. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Triax Pharmaceuticals, LLC announced today the launch of MINOCIN PAC, a dual approach to acne treatment.
MINOCIN PAC is the first and only prescription acne product to take a dual (Rx and cosmetic) approach to acne treatment, by providing an oral antibiotic along with calming skincare products. Each MINOCIN PAC contains a 60 count bottle of MINOCIN Pellet-Filled Capsules (50 mg or 100 mg) and three included skincare products at no additional cost to the patient. The cosmetic skincare products include: T3(TM) Calming Wipes, T3(TM) Calming Serum, and T3(TM) Calming Masque, which are specially formulated for Triax to calm irritated skin and control acne. The MINOCIN Pellet-Filled Capsules work to clear away acne from the inside by attacking the bacteria that cause the lesions.
With nearly one-third of retinoid prescriptions written with an oral antibiotic, the MINOCIN PAC is a perfect fit with Triax Pharmaceuticals' existing acne treatment line, Tretin-X (tretinoin). "The MINOCIN PAC represents a new paradigm in the use of systemic agents to treat acne," said Peter Volk, Vice President of Marketing at Triax Pharmaceuticals. "The dual approach of the MINOCIN PAC empowers acne sufferers to aggressively treat the acne from below the skin with the prescription power of MINOCIN, while immediately calming the skin externally with the use of the three cosmetic products."
Acne is the most common skin condition in America. Research shows that adult acne impacts 25 percent of all men and 50 percent of women at some time during their adult lives. Eighty five percent of all teenagers also experience some form of acne. For those with severe acne, MINOCIN is an effective treatment. One of the ways it works is by attacking P acnes, the bacteria responsible, in large part, for causing acne. Minocycline has demonstrated the power to significantly decrease P acnes and has been proven to clear acne lesions rapidly. Studies reflect that 90 percent of patients show marked improvement after 12 to 16 weeks of treatment.(1,2) MINOCIN is the only pelletized-release form of minocycline.
About the T3 Calming Cosmetic Products
The T3 Calming Wipes are a soothing, alcohol-free wipe that helps remove excess oil. They contain sodium hyaluronate, which is a well-known moisturizing agent.
The T3 Calming Serum is a uniquely formulated solution that features sodium hyaluronate, green tea extract, silymarin, and bisabolol to calm the skin and restore moisture. The T3 Calming Masque is a soothing and calming masque that incorporates algae and green tea extracts.
MINOCIN may be useful as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of severe acne. The most common adverse events associated with MINOCIN are nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Central nervous system adverse events including light- headedness, dizziness or vertigo have been reported with minocycline therapy but are generally transient in nature. Other adverse events include tinnitus, headache, sedation, and skin pigmentation, particularly on the face and mucous membranes. MINOCIN is contraindicated in persons who have shown hypersensitivity to any of the tetracyclines or to any of the components of the product formulation. WARNING: MINOCIN Pellet-Filled Capsules, like other tetracycline-class antibiotics, can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman. The use of drugs of the tetracycline class during tooth development (last half of pregnancy, infancy, and childhood to the age of 8 years) may cause permanent discoloration of teeth (yellow-gray-brown). Concurrent use of tetracyclines may render oral contraceptives less effective.
